Ogbomoso Youths in North America (OYNA) joins families, communities, and well-wishers in expressing deep relief and gratitude over the safe return of those recently abducted.
Their freedom is a reason to give thanks. It brings comfort to families, hope to communities, and a reminder that every life is precious. We celebrate this outcome with all those who prayed, advocated, supported, and worked toward their safe return.
At the same time, this moment must not pass without reflection. The pain, fear, and uncertainty caused by abduction and insecurity should never become normal in our society. No parent should have to worry about whether a child will return safely from school. No community should have to live under the shadow of fear.
As a people, especially across Yorubaland, we must treat safety as a shared responsibility. Government institutions, security agencies, traditional leaders, community associations, schools, religious bodies, local volunteers, and the diaspora all have roles to play in building safer communities.
OYNA believes that protecting lives requires both vigilance and innovation. Communities must move from reactive responses to proactive prevention. This includes stronger local coordination, trusted community reporting channels, real-time monitoring where appropriate, emergency alert systems, responsible information sharing, and better collaboration with security agencies.
Technology alone will not solve insecurity, but it can help communities see earlier, communicate faster, and respond more effectively. When combined with local knowledge, disciplined leadership, and community trust, technology can become a powerful tool for prevention and protection.
We call on stakeholders across Yorubaland and beyond to work together toward practical solutions that make our towns, roads, schools, markets, worship centers, and public spaces safer for everyone.
As we celebrate the safe return of our people, we also reaffirm OYNA’s commitment to supporting conversations and initiatives that strengthen community safety, protect human dignity, and contribute to the peace and progress of our homeland.
Our people deserve to live, learn, worship, travel, and gather without fear.
